Literacy Program
Each year, Rotarians carry out thousands of projects to expand and improve early childhood literacy and education programs for both boys and girls. The focus of these projects is not only to improve the ability of teachers to teach and empower schools to meet the needs of students in the community, but also to increase access to adult learning programs for both men and women.
Locally, Thomasville Rotary participates in numerous projects. Rotarians help hand out dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in Thomas County. We lend our support to the Ferst Foundation. This Foundation offers free books to children in our community monthly until the age of five. Thomasville Rotary also supplies scholarship funding for area adults to defer the cost involved in taking the GED test.
These projects reduce barriers to literacy and promote positive community environments for literacy.
