SafeDrive

SafeDrive Program... A Unique Rotary Public Service

Thomasville area drivers now have a new safety tool to minimize the risk of a serious auto mishap.

Started in the mid-90's, SafeDrive was founded by a Thomasville Rotarian whose young daughter survived a one-car wreck on a stretch of county road that first claimed the life of an unsuspecting driver more than 40 years ago.  Targeted to newly-licensed young drivers and newcomers to the community, the maps show the locations within the City and County where the worst accidents occur and provide both statistical data and safe-driving tips for each hazardous site flagged on the map.  Rotarians do the research needed to construct the maps, they fund the printing, and they keep the maps in distribution - free-of-charge - through local auto insurance agencies, the Georgia State Patrol license examiner's office, and The Welcome Center.  For added assurance that the community's youngest and most vulnerable drivers are aware of the road hazards, the SafeDrive Map has been incorporated into the local schools' 9th grade health and safety curriculum.
