Hands on Thomas County
The goals and objectives of Hands on Thomas County include linking individuals with volunteer agencies that have a need for volunteers, developing new projects that will best service the needs of our community. Uniting diverse groups of people through volunteerism, promoting flexible and creative volunteer activities that will appeal to people with busy schedules and to help individuals recognize what they have to offer their community.
This program started in 2004 and each succeeding year Rotary has participated by volunteering at the Vashti Center for Children and Families. Twenty to thirty Rotarians along with their families and friends have gathered each year to plant over 400 landscape plants, prune bushes and trees and plant 25 new trees. Beds have been cleaned and raked, weeds have been pulled and new pine straw put in beds as needed. Entrances have been painted; new benches have been installed throughout the campus. Each year the campus appearance has been enhanced and the staff and children are so appreciative of the significant change brought about by our dedicated volunteers.
