Description of Hazard: Similar to the intersection of U.S. 19 S. and East Jackson Street, this hazard is created by heavy traffic, excessive speed, its use as a major truck route and the failure of drivers to stop as required by the signal.
Vital Statistics: According to TPD data, there were 24 accidents and 8 reported injuries at this intersection during 2006.
Safe Driving Tip: Defensive driving is required here. When entering or crossing U.S. 19, drivers should be alert to approaching cars and not assume that traffic will stop at the red light. Drivers frequently "run" the red light on the highway.
