Location #7
Where: Intersection of East Jackson Street and Pinetree Boulevard.
Description of Hazard: Heavy traffic is the main culprit at this location. Congestion is attributed to the concentration of fast food restaurants and businesses in the area, including a pet store located at this intersection. Because there is not an obvious entrance to the pet store off of Jackson, traffic patterns may seem a bit chaotic at times as drivers are entering and exiting the pet store via a gas station on the corner. These factors - in combination with typically heavy commercial traffic - create the likelihood that inattentive or distracted drivers will get into a fenderbender at this intersection.
Vital Statistics: TPD data show that this intersection was the scene of 22 accidents in 2006. The 12 reported injuries is the second-highest injury count for a single intersection in the city.
Safe Driving Tip: To reduce the chance of an accident at this location, drivers are encouraged to slow their speed, to pay close attention to the traffic signals - particularly those regarding turns - and to drive defensively and courteously. At the intersection, drivers would be well advised to anticipate that many cars around them will be going too fast, that other drivers could be distracted, and that there could be a lot of impatient drivers who will run yellow and, possibly, red lights.
