FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message
All Hands on Deck

Roswell Rotary is on the front lines of serving the community.  Our ability to support those in need is in direct correlation with the success of our golf and tennis tournament as 100% of the proceeds go directly to the charities we support.

I ask that every member of our club support our fundraiser in some fashion. Thank you to those that have already sponsored or volunteered.

Please consider a sponsorship and/or donation and let Danny or Rich know how you can help.

This Week's Speaker
Federal Prisons Operations

Darlene Drew is the Owner & CEO of Leadership Conditioning, Personal & Professional Development, LLC. She is a Speaker, Leadership Trainer and Executive Coach with the John Maxwell Team. Darlene has been a public servant through her employment in law enforcement for over 32 years. She served as Warden/Chief Executive Officer of three different Federal prisons over an eleven year period. To date, she is the first and only female to serve as Warden at the United States Penitentiary, Atlanta since its inception in 1902. Darlene earned her Bachelors Degree from Illinois State University in Criminal Justice and Masters Degree in Public Administration from Governor State University. She was awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Women and Power Program, Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education. She loves “building up people.” With enthusiasm, she joined the John Maxwell Team because of the shared passion in helping people reach their potential.

Time to start loosening up for the Hagan Tennis Tourney Sept 14th.   Even if you haven’t played in a while, or just need a change of scenery,  this a great, fun way to see others in such a unique time. 2 pros – Todd Black and Michael Strahan, Brookfield Country Club – all refreshments and encouragement you need!

Please pass on to players you know. Let Lee Hollingsworth know that you will see him there.    lee@leehollingsworth.com.

ANOTHER REASON WHY ROSWELL'S ROTARIANS ARE PLANNING TO DONATE BLOOD

You might think that Gate City Brewery offering a "Pint for a Pint," is why members, members' employees, friends and family would be quick to register for a time to donate blood. Donate a pint of blood, and receive a pint a coupon for Freedom Fighter or any other Gate City libation.

You might think that the COVID-19 test is why.   Or the Amazon gift card  you'll receive (that you could in turn donate to HomeStretch).

“My father fought in the Korean War and saw many heroes give their lives for this country. He always impressed upon me to give back by giving blood so others can live,” shared Darrell Bartlett. Every day more people are diagnosed with illness such as cancer, leukemia and sickle cell disease, all which use blood for treatment. One pint of blood can help up to three people. Each unit of blood can be separated into four components - red cells, plasma, cryoprecipitate and platelets. These components can help as many as three different hospital patients. "I always feel good within my heart and my soul about giving blood to help others with whatever trauma they might be experiencing in their lives at the time they need blood."

Click here to reserve 60 minutes on Aug 27 to donate
.

For more information, contact Darrell Bartlett or Hal Schlenger. Our thanks to Pat Rains and Michael Curling for their current and past help saving lives in our community

Charity Spotlight
Child Development Academy

Mission:

The Children’s Development Academy affords all children in our community high-quality early education. Our vision is Best Start, Brightest Future, Every Child.

Fast Facts:

• Located in downtown Roswell

• Founded in 1968

• 240 children attend full-day early childhood education in nine vibrant classrooms—three each for Toddlers, Preschool and PreKindergarten

• The CDA program strives to prevent the Achievement Gap by Shrinking the Opportunity Gap that economically disadvantaged children suffer vis-à-vis more privileged peers.

• By focusing on our community’s most vulnerable, our program can:

  • Improve health outcomes and lower costs
  • Boost earnings; personal and corporate
  • Produce a higher rate of return on social spending: 7:1 dollar per investment for early education, and 13:1 when focused on high risk children
  • Reduce demand for prisons, dropout rates, and teen pregnancies
  • Return reliable, productive parents to the work force
  • Affect every child in a kindergarten classroom
