FAMILY OF ROTARY

President's Message
Service and Smiles

What a week! Thanks to USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program, last Thursday we distributed 550 food boxes to local nonprofits and residents of the Oak St./Magnolia area.

Thanks to your generosity, Ken Carter “the” King of Pops, and I treated teachers at title one schools to a popsicle. You have never seen so many happy teachers, who asked that I share their thanks with Roswell Rotary.

The third time is a charm, and Saturday night we danced the night away at our Holiday/70th Anniversary Fish Fry. It was great to be together again.

I am so proud to be a Roswell Rotarian!

This Week's Speaker
Memorial Day

Dr. Thomas E. Price, an orthopaedic surgeon, served as the 23rd Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). He brought to the Department a lifetime of service and dedication to advancing the quality of health care in America – both as a physician and policymaker.

His first calling was to care for patients. Dr. Price received his Bachelor and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his General Surgery Internship and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Emory University. After his training, Dr. Price – a third generation physician following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather – began a solo medical practice in Atlanta, Georgia, which would eventually grow to be one of the largest, non-academic orthopaedic practices in the country, which he led as Chairman of the Board. During his 20+ years as a practicing physician, he also served as Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital as well as an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine.

Committed to promoting positive solutions under principled leadership, Dr. Price remains a fierce advocate for a patient-centered health care system that adheres to six key principles: affordability, accessibility, quality, choices, innovation, and responsiveness.

He currently is a Board member for a number of entities in the private and non-profit arena, a consultant or advisor to numerous companies and is a much sought after public speaker.

Dr. Price and his wife, Betty, have lived in the Metro-Atlanta area for over 40 years. They attend Johnson Ferry Baptist Church and have one adult son.

Memorial Day Virtual Ceremony on YouTube

For 22 consecutive years thousands of people from Roswell and around the State have joined the Rotary Club of Roswell and the City of Roswell to honor the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our Country.  As in 2020, the 2021 Memorial Day in person ceremony has been cancelled.

To continue the remembrance, the Memorial Day Committee has produced a video utilizing “best of the best” past Ceremony moments that will be live streamed on YouTube on Memorial Day, May 31st at 11:00AM.

CLICK  here TO VIEW THE VIDEO.

Guest speaker is Captain Donna Rowe, retired Army. Captain Rowe served as the Head ER/Triage nurse in Saigon, Vietnam – 1968-69. She took on the task of saving a barely alive Vietnamese baby girl from her dead mother’s arms. Her story is featured in “The Kathleen Story” a permanent segment at the American History Museum. Donna and baby “Kathleen” are also featured in the documentary “The Shadow of the Blade”.
