Past Presidents- The Game
President's Message July 7

What a fantastic time we had last Thursday evening kicking off another Rotary year at Gate City Brewing with the induction of our 2022-2023 officers and board.  Thank you all that came out for a great night of music, food and fun.  We said thank you to our "smart dressed man" Terry Taylor for leading us through a great Rotary year, welcomed our new District Governor George Granade, and enjoyed the music of Crooked Wits.  I hope that the other hundred or so folks there at Gate City that night got a taste of how Roswell Rotary rocks.

I am honored to serve as the 72nd president of the Rotary Club of Roswell and follow in the footsteps of so many great past presidents.  We are a club that gets things done in our community and around the world and have a lot of fun doing it!

This Thursday we will test your knowledge about Roswell Rotary history as we play "Past President's - The Game".  No, we aren't going to lock the doors and do dastardly things to our past presidents.  Come see how much we know and get a taste of more to come this year.

First Program of President John's New Year
July 7 Program: Past Presidents- The Game

You don't want to miss this weeks program! Roswell Rotary has a lot of history. And The Game will be a fun way to share in that history through our knowledge or our past presidents and their accomplishments.

There is no better way to learn the ins and outs of Roswell Rotary than to sit beside, work beside, and party beside these past presidents who have led this club to so many accomplishments. It's mind blowing when you think of the reach for service this club has for our community and the world. If we could just do a group mind meld and tap into all that knowledge and experience!

The Game will be the next best thing. See you Thursday!

Golf & Tennis Tournament Updates
Bob Hagan & Sterling Health Lead the Way

This Week's G&T Happenings!

1. Meeting of G&T Committee 11:15 am this week...We need you there!

2. This will be the 10th year of the Hagan Cup Classic Tennis Tournament. What a HUGE milestone!

3. First sponsorship is in!! Big thank you to Bob Hagan and Sterling Health for their Round Robin Sponsorship of the 10th Annual Hagan Cup Classic Tennis Tournament  -- leading the way for our G&T Tournament fundraiser

 Bob’s message:

"We have come a long way these past 9 years . Not only have we had record tennis players playing, we have raised an enormous amount of dollars for the North Fulton community. It’s such a pleasure to see so many having fun, all while raising money to benefit our local charities. Please join me as we celebrate 1O years of service above self as we have a grand slam tennis tournament. The Hagan-ade will be ready!"

Charity Spotlight
North Fulton Community Charities

North Fulton Community Charities is one of the more than 25 charities that have been recipients of the proceeds from Roswell Rotary’s Aubrey Greenway Golf Tournament and Hagan Cup Classic Tennis Tournament.  Our fundraising efforts are impacting our community in important ways!

How NFCC serves North Fulton:

  •  More than 100 local families receive food from NFCC every day.
  •  NFCC distributes more than $1.4MM in emergency financial assistance (rent, utilities, & other necessities) each year.
  •  NFCC’s programs clothe over 1,100 families per year.
  •  Over 280 adults take NFCC’s life skills & workforce readiness classes yearly.
  •  1700+ individuals benefit from NFCC holiday programs for warm coats, Thanksgiving meals, and holiday toys.

Let’s join our efforts and every Rotarian work to make this year’s sole fundraiser a resounding success!

Give a Pint, Get a Pint on Wed, Aug 3
Another Rotary Blood Drive, Already? Really?

More than half of our club can't donate blood.  In fact, only about 10% of the club members donate, so why so much attention to blood donations when we could be focused on the Golf & Tennis Tournaments that help so many charities in our area?

  1. Humankind does not have a way to manufacture blood.  Humans are so divinely designed that we manufacture 1 pint every 56 days; in other words, those who donate can donate every 8 weeks.
  2. Every club member can help.  If you can't give, you can encourage a friend or family member to give in your honor.  Everyone wins.

Of course, there is a continuous need for blood.  You can ask several Roswell Rotary member personally or their family.  Or you can ask Jon Paul or Lori about Wellstar's needs.

For you or a friend to 'reserve a table' on Wed, Aug 3, click here to see availability and reserve your table.   For more info and questions, please contact Darrell Bartlett at Darrell.Bartlett@allegion.com or Hal Schlenger at HSchlenger@GreatSouthBenefits.com

Update on Panama and Grace Period Projects

Panama Update:  $180,675 Panama Clean Water Grant funding received by the Club!  This second, follow-on project with Rotary Club of Panama Nordeste is now underway!

Grace Period update: On June 22, nearly a hundred Mbuyazwe Primary and Secondary School female students received menstrual kits containing reusable sanitary products and participated in a menstrual health education session.  This Grace Period effort began with GRSP student Panashe Sivindani’s idea and is a collaboration among Belmont Rotary, Roswell Rotary Club, and Days for Girls to tackle this issue to make sure that girls in Zimbabwe can go to school throughout the year and give them a chance to lift themselves out of poverty through education – One Girl at a Time!
