FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynne Lindsey and all news should be directed to her at lynnehlindsay@outlook.com

President Alex's Message

Fellow Rotarians:

I hope everyone enjoyed last week's speaker's presentation on Tenacious. What a wonderful Georgia story!

Fall is in the air! We are readying our Youth Day Parade Float- special thanks to Zach Fields and Jack Wyche and their float team for designing/building/driving our club's float. Also, please remember to bring your bags of candy (no chocolate) so that they can be distributed from the float by our interact members.

Do you ever wonder why we make floats, throw candy, and celebrate Youth Day with a parade? Please come this Thursday to find out from Elaine DeNiro  and our own RRC spouse, Judy Meer, President of Roswell Historical Society. We will also have Mayor Wilson and our Council doing their Youth Day Parade proclamation with the introductions of their youth stand-ins.

This month we also have our Corn Hole Tournament to raise funds to continue our fight against Polio as well as Gary Garrett's Family Farm Day!

We also need to remember to sign up veterans as well as service members for our Honor Bus Trip on November 10th as well as to provide supplies for our Adopt a Platoon and volunteers for our Veterans Basketball Fundraiser.

Many Hands Make Light Work!

Roswell Historical Society to Visit Rotary

Judy Meer is the 2023-2024 President of the Roswell Historical Society and Roswell rotary spouse of Rick Meer. The Grand Opening of the Roswell History Museum in January of 2023 was the “Dream Come True” for many members of the Roswell Historical Society, including Judy, after many years of planning and fundraising.  She has been a member of the Society since 1998 and been an active Board Member and previous President.  She was also a member of the Roswell Preservation Commission for 21 years.  She now sits on the Commission as an Ex-Officio member as the President of the Roswell Historical Society. Judy is currently also an active member of the Roswell Woman’s Club, serving on the Board of Directors. Judy and her husband Rick founded Meer Electric in 1984 after relocating to Roswell from the historic mill town of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, in 1981.  After 39 years, they retired in January of this year and left son, Peter, his wife, Kelly and their daughter, Cierra in place to continue their legacy.

Elaine DeNiro is the archivist for the Roswell Historical Society/City of Roswell Research Library and Archives, where she has been responsible for the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of historical materials since 1999. She provides public access for these significant collections both online and at the Research Library. She authored two children’s books for the Historical society: a children’s workbook, once sponsored by the Roswell Rotary, on the history of Roswell, and a children’s storybook using historic photographs from the Research Library and Archives entitled, Rucker: the Lost Country Dog.  She is responsible for the curation of the exhibits in the new Roswell History Museum. Elaine is a certified archivist with the Academy of Certified Archivists.

After Hours Meeting Recap

Thank you to Rotarian Hal Schlenger and Dr. Brian Sanders of About You Family Medicine for speaking to Roswell Rotary After Hours last week! Hal and Dr. Sanders answered the club's burning questions about health insurance, premiums and the real cost of medical procedures. Most members of RRAH were not familiar with the "direct primary care" model of healthcare, so they walked away enlightened and informed!
