This Week's Speaker
The Very Rev. P. Richard Game, Rector, St. Patrick's Episcopal Church ... in Person and Via Zoom

Join us this Friday as Dunwoody Rotarian, the Very Rev. Richard Game, shares his thoughts about what leaders have learned in dealing with COVID-19. You can join us in person at the Dunwoody Country Club or via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419. Dick is currently the Rector of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church and joined the Dunwoody Rotary Club last February - just two weeks before our COVID-19 shutdown.

From Our Club President
Some Updates and Thoughts as We Move Ahead ...

Greetings Dunwoody! And thanks again for your commitment and support of all that we do. I wanted to share a couple of things with you:

  • Meetings will change: This week we will have our last live meeting at the Dunwoody Country Club. They have been a great partner to us over the last few months - and we appreciate what they have done to help us meet in person by opening their doors to us with just a 25-meal minimum. However, they have advised us (since we established the pandemic dues rate) that their finances don't allow them to continue at this level and that the new minimum will be 40 meals. Given our current live attendance level is running about 15-20, we are going to explore new options. After this Friday's meeting, we will move to Zoom only through the month of February. If you have ideas about places to meet, we'd love to have you share them.
  • We will continue to pursue acts of kindness and projects that make a difference: We helped out with yardwork at Bill Mulkey's home last Saturday (the crew pictured here), and as you'll see in this bulletin, we're continuing our work at the Community Assistance Center and Dunwoody Nature Center. We are investing again in Yemariam Workneh's education at Oglethorpe - through a combination of money we had set aside for GRSP this year (the program took a break this year because of COVID-19) and generous contributions from some of our members. We're highlighting opportunities to help judge Laws of Life essays and to learn more about how we can help end human trafficking , and taking advantage of Rotary Zones 33-34 initiative for helping individuals prepare and search for jobs - all opportunities you can access from home.

I look forward to seeing you Friday - whether it's online or via Zoom - and at our service events as you feel you can join us.

Thanks for all you do!

President Ardy

Service Opportunity
You Can Judge the Laws of Life Essay Contest From Home

This year we are moving to an online submission and judging platform, Submittable. Both School Level Judges and State Judges will participate via an online process. With this change, even more volunteers throughout the state can participate! Online training sessions for judges on how to navigate Submittable will begin in January. The judging process begins in February.

You may register via the VOLUNTEER tab at GeorgiaLawsOfLife.org OR complete a form available here. That form includes more information about School and State level training dates for those who will be judging.

Still Time to Learn More About The Fight Against Human Trafficking

The Rotary Club of Dunwoody is filled with people of action. We now know that Metro-Atlanta is a major human trafficking hub. Now, we are asking YOU to do something about it!

Our Club is part of The Atlanta Rotary Council Against Human Trafficking. We have partnered with the International Human Trafficking Institute (IHTI), the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery (RAGAS), and Human Traffic Proof GA. January is “End Human Trafficking” month. IHTI is offering two one-hour instructor-led, virtual training events multiple times to Rotarians over the next two weeks. Each has its own sign-in link ... click sign up for the sessions you wish to attend.

Social Opportunity
Even Dozen Attend January Thirsty Thursday

For those who are new to the Club or just coming out of social isolation due to the pandemic, Thirsty Thursday is an opportunity to socialize in a responsible fashion. It usually happens on the third Thursday of each month, but this month we gathered on the second Thursday.

A dozen folks braved what was expected to be chilly temperatures, gathering outdoors at The Dunwoody Tavern. People wore masks when not drinking/eating, but still managed to catch up on what is going on in each other's lives. Jud Shumway (Jennifer's fiancée) supplied great music, while conversations raged. With two fire pits and a space heater, the temperature turned out not to be an issue.

Plan to join us on third Thursday in February - February 18 - on the patio at The Dunwoody Tavern from 5:30 PM to 7 PM.
