No Friday Morning Meeting
37th Annual Holiday Luncheon at Dunwoody Country Club ... In Person Only

Tomorrow the Dunwoody Family of Rotary will gather at the Dunwoody Country Club for the 37th annual Holiday Luncheon. Festivities begin at 11:00 am; lunch buffet opens at 11:30 am.

At our first holiday luncheon in 1984, we made our first charitable donation to provide Christmas gifts for disabled children. Tomorrow. we will collect to donate unwrapped toys that we'll donate to the Marine's Toys for Tots program - continuing a tradition of providing gifts for needy children at the holidays. Thanks to Jim and Janet Glass for bringing the Toys for Tots opportunity to us years ago - and for their continued leadership of this effort.

Tomorrow's luncheon will be very special as we welcome Bill Mulkey's family and pay special tribute to "Mr. Rotary."

About 90 people will join the party tomorrow. We will not be broadcasting via Zoom.

Come Help Save the Old Growth Forest - Dunwoody Nature Center This Saturday

This Saturday, December 11, we have another workday at the Dunwoody Nature Center. But it's more than just a workday to Past President Cathie Brumfield, master gardener, who is passionate about this work because it's helping to save valuable old growth forest. I asked Cathie to explain the significance and you can read about it by clicking "more" at the end of this article.

But here's the bottom line from Cathie, "In our own backyard, the Dunwoody Nature Center actually encompasses an old growth forest. However, the invasives must be removed to allow the native plants to return and flourish. The DNC established the Forest Steward’s program in early 2021, and I was recruited by the prior Director to assist.

"As a devoted Georgia Native Plant enthusiastic restoring my own property, I was not impressed by the need to remove invasives from someone else’s property, however I was blown away by the varieties of native plants sprouting at the DNC as we eliminated the ivy.

"Can you join us? Every month we gather at the DNC on a Saturday morning for a few hours to make a difference. Let’s help save the native Piedmont Forest in our own backyard and help restore the most amazing property I have ever seen. And remember we will not have native birds and bees without native plants.) Volunteer day is on the second Saturday of every month, working with the Forest Stewards - starting at 9 am. It’s a wonderful way to start off your weekend in nature and service. JOIN US! Let save the forest together."

For now, read more about the forest ...
