No Dunwoody Meeting This Friday
Join Us for Thirsty Thursday at Hob Nob and/or DeKalb Rotary Council Breakfast on Friday

There's no meeting at the Embassy Suites this Friday. However, there are two great opportunities to meet up with your Dunwoody friends:

  • Join us for Thirsty Thursday at Hob Nob, 1221 Ashford Crossing, Dunwoody GA 30346. Festivities begin at 5:30 pm.
  • The DeKalb Rotary Council will hold its annual breakfast for members of the eight clubs in Dekalb County this Friday, March 21, at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (495 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021). The activities will begin at 7a with a buffet breakfast. We'll have awards for Teacher of the Year, and recognize Rotarians with the Show Rotary Cares award (in honor of our own PDG Bill Mulkey) and the You are the Key award (in hoor of PDG Bob Grant from Stone Mountain, who was also an Honorary Member of our club). The speaker for the event is Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the newly elected CEO of Dekalb County.

We encourage you to attend both events. The club will pay for your breakfast, so let Rick Woods know (if you haven't already) at sdoowrm@gmail.com with the subject line “Dekalb Breakfast” to indicate your attendance. Check with Rick if you'd like to know about any carpooling arrangements.

Golf Tournament Update
While You're Thinking Good Weather for May 19, Also Consider ...

Tournament planning is going well with new sponsors added each week. Consider the $25 Participating Sponsorship if you can’t sponsor, play or volunteer!

We really need your help in gaining a sponsorship for the $5,000 Gold sponsor, another $3,000 Silver sponsor and an event sponsor for $2,500 Putting Contest. All come with special signage at the event and on the website.

We continue to look for a potential $20,000 Signature sponsor. Rick Woods has contacted EVERY car dealership in our area with no luck so no surprise that this is not an easy task. The sub-committee formed to address large corporate sponsorship solicitation will now be addressed by the Business Connections Committee recently formed as part of the membership survey results compiled by Peter Sherman. Please contact Hoshi Daruwalla if you want to serve on this committee.

We have openings in $1,000 Hole sponsorships (we have 16 so far) as well as opportunities to become a $250 Contributing sponsor (we have 4 so far), a $100 Donating sponsor (we have 1 so far) or even a $25 Participating sponsor (we have NONE so far)!

Merchandise choices are being finalized by their sponsors this week and orders will be placed soon. We will have beige hats this year.

Neal MacDonald made an appeal to the membership last week asking for help is acquiring auction items such a restaurant gift cards (we have $100 from Marlow’s Tavern) and other retail type gift cards, baskets of your own design such as wine or cosmetics and destination packages to lake homes, hotel weekends or beach vacations. We’ll have some jewelry items (we have a $1,000 Gift Crad from Lauderhills Fine Jewelry and a Women’s Sport Watch from Worthmore Jewelers) and possibly some sports and movie memorabilia on consignment. If you have items at home to donate, please make sure they are new and unused. Please contact Neal MacDonald if you want to serve on this committee.

The most current information can be found on the tournament website at www.rcdgolftournament.com. Please direct contacts to the most excellent website that is up-to-date and looks great thanks to Hoshi who is making almost daily updates.

Getting to Know You
Denise Brodsky, Advocate and Grandma!

Last Friday, we were delighted to host Denise Brodsky as our guest speaker when she reviewed how Clubhouse Atlanta supports the local community. This week, we highlight her as a Rotarian and club member.

Denise was initially attracted to Rotary for the powerful collaboration and community connection it fosters. She emphasized the value of building relationships with like-minded individuals. Her favorite Rotary memory with our club is participating in last year's Fourth of July parade, where she forged deeper bonds with fellow members. Denise expressed a desire to see our club engage more actively in advocacy. She believes many members harbor strong passions for specific causes and would benefit from advocating for public policy changes.

This past weekend Denise had family visit from Arizona and the photo shows her on top of Stone Mountain with two grandsons. Looking ahead, she is planning a ladies' vacation this June to visit Arizona, joining her sister, sister-in-law, and niece for a well-deserved getaway. We thank Denise for her insightful presentation and her commitment to our club.
